Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation's Festival of Trees opens Friday, Nov. 29 with Light Up the Night.

"We are anticipating that families and individuals, both young and old, will be delighted with the proceedings of the first evening of the festival," noted Carey Tollefson, Marian McNabb and Pat Gotto, co-chairs of the event.

There will be Christmas music from Diane Gryba, cookies and hot chocolate for the kids and eggnog for adults. Robin Peterson of Venice House plans to prepare a number of tasty appetizers for guests to nibble on as they view and bid on the decorated wreaths, trees and seasonal items for silent auction.

There will be raffles to support fundraising efforts plus a silk painting by local artist Bonnie Macnab.

"The culmination of the evening will take place with the official opening of the festival when we illuminate the 20 foot Christmas tree and 'light up the night' outside the Dekker Centre," say the co-chairs.

"Please plan to attend to have an enjoyable Christmas evening with your friends and family celebrating the beginning of the season. Christmas, it is a family affair."

Admission is $5/person or $10/family. Fundraising efforts are allocated towards the purchase of a new digital fluoroscopy unit for the Medical Imaging Department at BUH.

Other festival events are: Saturday - public viewing 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., open to everyone; Saturday - Evening of Gratitude, doors open 5 p.m., advance tickets required; Sunday - Breakfast and Pictures with Santa, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., open to everyone.
