Students at Maidstone High School are proud SADD or Students Against Driving Distracted members.

Over a quarter of the students in the school are a part of the group active in the school and the community.

Earlier this month MHS SADD members marked Provincial Impaired Driving Awareness Week. They decorated place mats for local restaurants and shared delicious alcohol-free treats by distributing ice cream floats to the school's staff and students.

A noon hour race was held where participants had to wear a cardboard box car while performing feats of balance and skill.

The most popular activity is still the door decorating contest. The number of entries was down this year but the groups involved put a lot of effort and creativity into their entries. The winning entries had bold designs and simple messages. One of them took on the issue of driving a boat while drinking.

The SADD group will be at the Maidstone Trade Fair on April 2 and 3. Marfleet Building Materials is sponsoring their booth where they will be selling cotton candy and sharing their message. They will also be helping with the set up and clean up of the RCMP Regimental Ball and are planning awareness activities in May prior to the long weekend.

Members of SADD in Maidstone are passionate about their responsibilities and happy to be involved in a group proposing life protecting alternatives.
