Senior fitness team heads to N.S.

Rivers West District has assembled a Saskatchewan Seniors Fitness Association team for the 55+ National Games Aug. 29 to Sept. 1 in Sydney, N.S. A qualifying SSFA 55+ event was hosted in Rosetown with about 70 taking part.

A qualifying SSFA 55+ event was hosted in Rosetown with about 70 taking part.

Events included five-pin bowling, golf, Cribbage, Kaiser, Scrabble, eight ball pool and short story and poetry writing.

For the first time in several years Rivers West had representation in swimming and slo-pitch.

Moving on to compete at the national games are: Candlepin Bowling: Ladies' 75+ singles- Lucille Hicks, Rosetown; Men's 55+ Singles - Les Wardrop, Rosetown; Men's 65+ Singles - Ron Ogg, Rosetown; Team 55+ POA (points over average) Scratch - Ron Ogg, Rosetown, Joseph Hoffman, Maidstone, Agnes Hoffman, Maidstone, Les Wardrop, Rosetown, Elizabeth Rollheiser, Marshall; Team 75+ POA - Edna Foster, Rosetown, Lucille Hicks, Rosetown

Golf: Men's 65+ - Larry Reiniger, Denzil; Men's 55+ Ron Hay, Rosetown; Men's 75+ - Roger Seib, Rosetown; Men's 85 - Joseph Boser, Unity.

Swimming: Ladies' 60+ - Kathleen Bracken, Lloydminster; Track NS Field Ladies' 60+ Linda Kisling-Schriber, Saskatoon (representing Rivers West District).

The Saskatchewan Senior Fitness Association (SSFA) is a volunteer non-profit, non-government organization whose mission is to improve the total wellbeing of Saskatchewan seniors through participation in physical, cultural, social and intellectual activities and program and services are designed to meet the needs and interests of people 50 years of age and older. They include provincial and national games, which include bowling, horseshoes, tennis, swimming, poetry/short story writing, slo-pitch, curling, golf, darts, board and card games to name a few.

The organization also promotes and offers walking programs, workshops and seminars.
