Seniors' centre ready for winter activities

The Meota seniors held their regular monthly meeting Oct. 11. An Oct. 2 pie and coffee sale was an enjoyable afternoon as folks socialized.

The Meota Lions Chorus entertained at the Edam Lady Minto Health Care Center on Wednesday afternoon Oct. 30, all decked out in their Halloween costumes. They were well received and brought many a smile to every face. Their music had toes tapping and some sang along with words they knew.

The Meota seniors held their regular monthly meeting Oct. 11.

An Oct. 2 pie and coffee sale was an enjoyable afternoon as folks socialized.

The outside of the building has been swept free of cobwebs and the windows have been washed in readiness for winter.

The club's Christmas supper will be held Dec. 7, starting at 5:30 p.m. at a cost of $15. Tickets will be available from club members until Dec.1. Folks are also asked to bring an item for the food bank.

A seniors' shuffleboard tournament was held in Yorkton Nov. 2.

It was decided to change the time slot for Kaiser players from Thursday evenings, to 2 p.m. Friday, every second Friday, beginning Nov. 8. This is the same day that Canasta is played in the evening. We hope this will bring out more folks of every age group, not just seniors, to play for fun.

A games day at Livelong Oct. 18 was enjoyed by several seniors from Meota, stating at 10 a.m. Games included Kaiser in the morning, Whist and Cribbage in the afternoon, as well as Bridge and pool and shuffleboard. Of course there were coffee breaks and a nice noon lunch included.

The Meota Lions Chorus travelled to Edam on Oct. 30 where they entertained at the Lady Minto Health Center, in their Halloween costumes, to the delight of all residents and staff. Many tunes had folks tapping their toes or singing along with old tunes, raising everyone's spirits. Socializing and a sharing of cake and drinks was appreciated by everyone, afterwards.

The flu clinic was held in the Do Drop In Oct. 23 with a steady stream of traffic for the two nurses to take care of.

The next wellness clinic will be held at the Do Drop In on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 12:15 - 2:30 p.m.

STARS calendars are available at the R.M. and the town offices, for $30. This includes a CD by Gordon Bamford with his Christmas songs and a dozen pretty STARS bandages.

The Meota annual Christmas concert will be held at the Community Complex Sunday, Dec. 1.

The annual Lions supper was held Oct. 20 with as big a crowd as ever, with lots of good food and fellowship. Thanks again to the volunteers who make these events possible and so wonderful.

Sympathy goes out to the family of the late Judy Iverson whose service was held in Meota Community Complex Oct. 21.

Norwegian Whist was enjoyed at the Do Drop In Nov. 1, with four tables in play, followed by lunch and socializing. Judy Walker, Elmo Colwell, Janice Morton and Bev McCrimmon earned top scores. This is sponsored by Sons of Norway. Their next Whist will be played at the Do Drop In on Friday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. and is open to the public who would like to join them. There is a potluck supper after.

Get well wishes go out to Muriel Tebay of North Battleford who is recovering from hip surgery. We wish her a speedy recovery. Also get well wishes go out to all who are in hospital or having problems, as so many are.

Long- time resident Gladys Lehman has moved into the city to the new Caleb Village where she is feeling well looked after and enjoying the luxuries they offer. This is quite a treat after being such an independent person all her life and a hard worker. She has earned the life of ease she now has, with her motorized wheelchair and conveniences. Her sister Judy Emmerson has moved to North Battleford from British Columbia to be near family and they are happy to get together often. Gladys looks forward to all her Meota friends to visit, as she waits for her hip surgery at yearend, after which she hopes to be more mobile again.

Ladies of the Lady of Fatima Church in Meota held a tea and bake sale Nov. 2 in the newly renovated church basement. They had lots of baking and canned goods, and they served tea and coffee and carrot cake or pie, all afternoon. Many folks stopped by for their snack of the day. The baking was picked up quite quickly as the home baked goods are ever so tasty. Winter program at this church is mass every Sunday at 10:15 p.m.

Anna and Ken Tucker from the Murray Lake area have moved to Valleyview Towers II and are settling in quite comfortably.

Meota Christmas Farmers' Market is set for Saturday, Nov. 16, from 11a.m. to 3 p.m. with tables available from Sylvia Mikkelson at 892-2524, book before Nov. 10.
