Snowbirds beginning to flock home

Am I the only one that is not seeing spring, even though that calendar says that we are already a week into it? March came in like a lion and apparently is going to go out like one too.

Community condolences go out to Vic Ricketts on the passing of his brother in law, Ron Dearborn. Get well wishes go out to Laurie Martens and to Albert Colbe. Both Laurie and Albert have undergone knee surgery. Our thoughts are with Hazel Speerbrecker as she makes her new home at Leoville at the Evergreen Health Centre. Albert is spending his recuperation at Rose Gill Lodge.

As with most months in Rabbit Lake we have had a series of suppers. The Rabbit Lake Community Hall sponsored the annual Shrove Tuesday supper on March 8, the monthly potluck supper at the Rabbit Lake Senior Sunrise Circle was held on March 16, an authentic Irish dinner was held at the WhistleStop Coffee Shop on St. Patrick's Day and the Rabbit Lake Community Church, formerly St. Paul's Lutheran Church, held a deep fried turkey supper and a Kaiser tournament on March 21. Willie Kuffert of Chitek Lake was the first place winner, Bruce McNabb was second and Nancy Penley was third. You will have to ask Shelly Laughlin if she mistakenly wrote her age on the score pad or if her total was really what she said! Thinking of the community church, do you know that it is available for weddings, baptisms or whatever?

The Rabbit Lake and District Agricultural Association met to review the snowmobile rally and to make plans for the upcoming Carlton Trail Jamboree. The snowmobile rally was very successful. Those who were involved said that they had a great time. Hats off to the Ag Assoc. for planning this. Everyone pitched in and made it successful. It was announced at the meeting that Emmerson Drive, JD Bixby, Bullrush and The Stampeders are but a few of the confirmed performers this year. Watch for posters to be up very soon!

Welcome back to some of our snowbirds. Al and Jan Richter arrived back about the same time as the crows! Don and Ardes Petersen rivaled the gophers but apparently a gopher was seen before the Petersens. Jake and Cecilia Krahn were home first on all. We all know that the rest of the snowbirds will arrive just and day or two before the last snowstorm of the season.

Dave and Nancy Penley, Cindy Miller and Gordon Pachalko reported having a great time in Veradero, Cuba.

The next seniors' potluck supper will be held on April 20.
