Holy Family students were overheard saying "Can I pie you?" May 27.

They were referring to the school's Annual Spring Charity Walk-a-thon.

Battleford Catholic Family Services, Battlefords Right to Life, Holy Family School in Ghana, The Children's Wish Foundation, Camp Tamarack, North Battleford Humane Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Autism Society of North Battleford, Canadian Diabetes Association and the MS Society were invited to receive donations from the students who raised money by collecting pledges and taking part in a walk April 30.

A total of $5,000 was raised and each agency received $500.

In the morning, students gathered in the gym to watch the top 10 students fundraisers present their cheques to the deserving agencies.

They heard how the efforts of the students have made a difference to the lives of people in their community this year and the past nine years. The humane society again did not disappoint the children and brought a furry friend along to the cheque presentation.

That afternoon, the students were rewarded for their efforts. Grade 3 student, Andrew Pyle, shaved off his hair, a draw for prizes was held for all those collecting funds and the top 10 fundraisers were able to pie a person of their choice.

Commenting on the event, Shane Hosegood, principal of Holy Family School, said, "We feel it is important for our students to know that they can make a difference in the lives of people in our local community and our global community. The testaments of the group representatives are proof of that."
