Clayton Robertson of Bjelde Creek passed away suddenly Oct. 15 at the age of 73. A celebration of life service was held at the Alex Dillabough Centre in Battleford Oct. 19. Burial was at the Willowmoore Cemetery.
Clayton was a retired farmer and rancher in the Bjelde Creek area. He came to the area many years ago with his parents the late Sandy and Ella Robertson and his brother Grant from Cabri. The farm and ranch grew larger as they brought more land in the Baljennie area. Some of this land was once owned by the Rowlands, Mills, Rayner and Custer families. Other members of the family operate the land. Clayton was a good friendly neighbour. His brother Grant Robertson passed away with a sudden heart attack in July 2010. All the family were home to spend time with Clayton during his last days. Sympathy is extended to all the family.
The annual fall round up at the Lizard Lake Community pasture in October sent the cattle to their winter homes. The pasture came to an end fast due to no fall rains, which left the pastureland very dry. One herd of cattle were trailed by horseback riders through the local area to their winter grounds.
I was sorry to have missed the News-Optimist luncheon in October. We had to be elsewhere that day and could not make it. Many thanks for the invitation. I have been to others in the past and really did enjoy meeting all the other district correspondents. There are not too many of us country reporters left. It is so sad to see all the country news fading. Each year I seem to have less and less to report and there are not as many activities going. When some thing does happen or visitors come no one wants to report. Many district people get the local newspaper and look forward to reading about what's happening back home. I would like to thank those neighbours and friends who do help keep me up on what's happening. I have been reporting from the local area for over 30 years now. They have been good years.
We recently went through a time change throughout most of Canada except for the province of Saskatchewan. We are so fortunate not to make that big change fall and spring. I'm sure we are all satisfied to keep it that way. It has worked out well for us all. Why is there so much fuss over it?
