Stewart and Phyllis Cunningham returned home from their annual vacation to Spain where the temperature was in the 60 to 80 degree range. Stewart and Phyllis visited an English cemetery that was founded in the 1830s to provide a last resting place for non-Catholics who died in Malaga. The graves are covered with shells. The historical cemetery and gardens are in disrepair and financial aid is needed to restore the historical cemetery.

They also enjoyed the activities of the Pre-Lenten Carnival which included a parade, singing groups and many people dressed up in costumes. They also visited with many Spanish friends they have made through the years. They returned home from Spain in time to go out in the cold and attend some of the ski races at Table Mountain.

Congratulations to Sarah Jones of Speers who was chosen to ski with the Saskatchewan Alpine Team and compete at the Winter Games in Halifax. Sarah placed 19th and 27th in her races there and said she was very happy to reach her goal, which was to be in the top 20. Sarah said it was an awesome experience to ski with athletes from all across Canada and she felt very proud to represent Saskatchewan and to walk with the athletes in the closing ceremony.

Traveling to Halifax to watch the games and cheer Sarah on were her parents, Rob and Diane Jones, sister Megan Jones and aunt Kathy McAllister from Speers and North Battleford respectively.

The Hafford and District Music Festival Association held their 49th festival March 21-25 in Hafford. Sixty entries made it a very busy week. Megan Jones of Speers was named Outstanding Pianist and received a trophy and scholarship. Megan also received a trophy and scholarship as the Outstanding Vocalist. As well, she won a Beethoven bust for earning the highest mark for a sonata performance.

Congratulations to both Sarah and Megan Jones. It is good to see local youth doing great in their chosen endeavours.

Sympathy goes out from the Richard community to Mark Dearborn and family members on the passing of Ron Dearborn recently. Ron was raised on a farm north of Richard in the Bromeley District and, after marrying Mary Ricketts, lived and farmed where he grew up.
