MELFORT — A Melfort couple was presented with a national award for more than three decades of volunteering with Special Olympics Canada Dorothy and John Wickstrom were presented with the Jim Thompson Award at a ceremony Jan.

MAIDSTONE – Cribbage was played Monday, Dec. 17 with high score going to Dorothy Schwartz and low to Bev Stewart. Lunch was provided by Denise Newton. The Christmas bingo was held Wednesday, Dec. 19 with Margaret MacEachern doing the calling.

MELFORT — Rotary exchange students staying in communities all over Western Canada came to Melfort to get a taste of Canadian winter sports. The 17 students skiied, swam, tobogganed and curled during the Jan 12. and 13 weekend.

A small town tradition continued in Lake Lenore as people from all over came to snack on 500 fillets of smoked whitefish.

A new member of the Kin family will work to fulfill St. Brieux’s greatest need. The Kin Club of St. Brieux was charted at a gala at the community hall Jan. 11.

Volunteers are encouraged to meet up at the Allen Sapp Gallery to make Red Dress Pins and Heart Pins in time for the Walking With Our Sisters Round Dance on Jan. 31.

A centre of Humboldt culture celebrated its fifth anniversary. The Humboldt and District Gallery celebrated the milestone with a reception opening up its 66th exhibit on Jan. 10, exactly five years to the date of its grand opening.

A local cross-country skiing club is providing the equipment allow the curious a taste of the sport.
