In the Community

As we finally have joined the rest of this province in getting somewhat damp, I know that anyone who is trying to grow something around here has been happy to see good old Mother Nature finally getting around to moistening our parched soil.

Here we are in the last half of June. With school quickly drawing to a close, the students are counting down the days till their summer vacation. Class trips and final exams are pretty much all that is left in the school year. H.

Ten members of the Baljennie Community Co-operative Hall Ltd. met June 13 at the community centre for one of the final meetings to end the co-operative part of the community club.

Nearly five inches of rain has fallen in this area during the past few days. Sloughs have appeared in the fields. We did need rain.

A group of local artists gathered June 11, to listen to the words of one of the most important figures of the Western Canadian art scene.

The swimming pool is open. And, if you haven't had a chance to register your child for lessons yet, you can do this right at the pool office. Public swim hours are evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and weekends 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Will Cst. Jacqueline Spence be missed? Yes she will. A surprise potluck supper was held for Spence June 8 at the Radisson Community Hall. Close to 80 people were there to say goodbye. She was greeted with She's A Golly Good Fellow and lots of tears.

North Battleford Comprehensive High School graduate Britni Brenna has earned the 2011 APEGS gold medal for geoscience at the University of Saskatchewan.

Borden School Community Council served up a free barbecue supper prior to the school's awards night The Affinity CU $500 scholarship went to Tom Wensley and the Kare Ag $500 went to Melissa Saunders, both Grade 12 students.

Are we the only place that is crying for rain? It seems like it has rain all around us but we are desperately dry. Sunday afternoon clouded up and gave us some thunder and lightning but only two tenths of rain.
