The Heavyweights Brass Band will perform in North Battleford as part of the SaskTel Jazz Festival.

The Battlefords Jazz Society’s last show of the year is, as always, co-sponsored with the help of the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival.

"This year," says the society, "we have a fantastic show for you as The Heavyweights Brass Band rolls into town and down on into the Sloan."

The performance will take place Monday, June 29. The group has been touring national jazz festivals since the beginning of June and will be playing in Saskatoon at the SaskTel Jazz Festival Sunday. From here, they're off to Montreal.

Inspired by the New Orleans brass band tradition, the Heavyweights' original stance keeps one foot firmly rooted in the rich legacy of jazz, while one foot steps forward into the future. Like the music's originators, the Heavyweights are unafraid to incorporate influences from disparate areas of the musical spectrum, from pop hits of the day to original compositions, from R&B and funk throwbacks to the infectious rhythms of Latin America. With their latest album, Brasstronomical, the Heavyweights Brass Band also offers a unique sound with emphasis on their original compositions.

Tickets are available online for the Heavyweights Brass Band North Battleford show and all Jazz Festival shows at www.saskjazz.com, or they can be found at the usual vendors – NuFloors, Bee-J’s Office Plus or Jazz Society directors. The ticket price is $20. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show goes at 8 p.m.
