The Sons of the Pioneers will be performing a concert featuring their legendary music Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. at the Western Development Museum in North Battleford.
This legendary band, originally the Roy Rogers Band, is coming to Saskatchewan from Branson, Missouri, where they perform regularly for tourists from around the world. They are touring south and central Saskatchewan.
This is the first Saskatchewan tour of the band in its 81 years. The Sons of the Pioneers have performed at the Calgary Stampede and were even parade grand marshalls there, many years ago.
They also sold out performances in southern Manitoba, a few years ago.
It all began in 1934, in L0s Angeles, Calif. as a trio, with Leonard Sly who became Roy Rogers, Tim Spencer and a Canadian-born singer named Bob Nolan. Ken Curtis (Festus) was a skilled singer with the Sons of the Pioneers before playing in Gunsmoke.
The group has performed in 88 movies, earned five halls of fame awards and have created countless recordings.
Promoters say the evening will be memorable and they hope to fill every seat that night. There will be CDs and pictures, printed in Saskatchewan, available at the concert, during intermission. There will be a meet and greet opportunity with the band after the concert is over.
The event is also an opportunity to contribute non-perishable food items to the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre. There will be a bin at the concert for the food donations. Thank you!
