A 23-year-old man was found deceased in a field 10 kilometres south of Weirdale from what looks to be a hunting accident.

Shortly after 8:00 p.m. Sept. 16, Nipawin RCMP responded to a complaint of an injured man.

Initial investigation has revealed two men – a 23-year-old and 22-year-old, both from Prince Albert – were hunting separately and apart from each other in the same area around 7:30 p.m. A firearm was discharged and the 23-year-old was located deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.

The two men were not known to each other. The incident was reported to police by the 22-year-old man, who remained at the scene.

The death is not considered suspicious at this time.

The RCMP said they will not be releasing the name of the deceased.

All aspects of this incident are currently being investigated by Smeaton and Nipawin RCMP – this includes awaiting the results of an autopsy that will be completed this week in Saskatoon.
