For the 25th time Light of Christ Catholic School Division has honored its distinguished staffers on its annual appreciation night.
The event held at the Tropical Inn Friday honoured retiring staffers as well as for those with lengthy years of service.
Lumen Christi awards (which is the Latin term for "Light of Christ") were presented to two recipients for the positive faith role modeling they have provided to students in the schools on which they worked in the division.
One of those honoured was Dan Wilgenbusch, who has worked at St. George's School in Wilkie and Saint Peter's School in Unity, where he is currently principal. He was recognized for his work in the schools and activities in the parish. He was credited with leading by example and for working hard to build a positive relationship between church and school.
Also honoured was Yvonne Loehndorf, who has been religious education co-ordinator for the school division following several years teaching in the division. Her work has included nine years at St. Mary School where she taught kindergarten. She was honoured for her leadership in the area of parish involvement and making the strong connection between school and church, with notable contributions to faith development.
Loehndorf also was one of four being honoured with a presentation upon her retirement from the school division. The other retirees were Darlene Garchinski, Loreen Stabbler, and Maurice View.
Garchinski worked in a variety of capacities at St. Mary School and John Paul II Collegiate for 15 years. Stabbler worked at St. Peter's School in Unity, while View worked in custodial services, mainly at St. Mary School and also at John Paul II Collegiate.
Thirty-three were honored with years of service awards. A 30-year honour went to Eugene Rice, while four staffers, Shauna Blackmer, Evelyn Combres, Shelley Jullion and Cathy Jurgens, received recognition for 25 years.
