Two Northwest communities are among 15 that will receive new child care space funding from the government of Saskatchewan.

Paradise Hill and Macklin will both have child care centres developed, according to an announcement last week by Education Minister Russ Marchuk. Macklin Daycare will accommodate 25 children, while development of space at the Paradise Hill Community Centre will have 20 spaces.

"It is my pleasure during Early Childhood Education Month to announce the locations of government's increases this year of 500 new child care spaces," Marchuk said. "Thanks to the work of early childhood educators in licensed child care homes and centres, children benefit from play-based experiences that are essential for development and that contribute to later success in all areas of life."

This year's investment will raise the number of licensed child care spaces to more than 13,700. Investment since 2007 has brought 4,435 new licensed child care spaces - a 48 per cent increase - to communities across the province, according to the government.

Other communities receiving child care spaces include: La Ronge, Humboldt, Weyburn, La Ronge, Martensville, Saskatoon, Regina, Swift Current, Prince Albert, Outlook, St. Louis, Cabri, Fort Qu'Appelle and Nokomis.
