Battlefords United Way is providing $60,000 in program funding to five local non-profit groups.

Battlefords Boys and Girls Club, Battlefords Trade and Education Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association - Battlefords Branch, Battlefords and Area Sexual Assault Centre and the Empty Stocking Fund have all been approved for funding through this year's allocation process.

According to a press release, this funding will affect the lives of over 4,000 people in the community. People will have access to recreation and nutrition programs, counselling services and life skills and employment programs because of this funding support, the release states.

"We continue to be grateful to our business and individual supporters," said Monte Migneault, allocations committee chair. "Because of the donors' annual commitments, the groups receiving grants can focus on the programs and services they provide to our community."

The release says Battlefords United Way exists to improve lives and build community by engaging individuals and mobilizing collective action. Battlefords United Way continues to raise funds for agencies that provide services and programming in the areas of poverty, community health and children.
