An event took place at the legislative buildings Monday, Nov. 2 to recognize those who took part in fighting the wildfires in Northern Saskatchewan this summer.

News-Optimist readers have come forward to identify the photo published by Saskatoon media outlets of a man sentenced to jail for sexual assault as being a former long-time resident of North Battleford.

The North Battleford Fire Department headed out of town Friday morning in response to a grass and straw bale fire. NBFD reports the call came in at 8:42 a.m. and they responded with a pumper, a utility truck and three firefighters.

Saturday, Oct. 31 between 4 and 10 p.m., a residence in Waseca was broken into and several high-end electronics were stolen, including TVs, stereos and a video game system.

The 2015 Festival of Trees, presented annually by the Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation, will be held this month at the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. Wednesday, the foundation accepted a $10,000 cheque from the event's diamond sponsor.

Battleford town council is keeping a close eye on the situation with the post office in the community. However, it is also a situation the Town has little control over.

Destination Battlefords was before Battleford town council Monday with a request for more funding. Executive Director Ryan Bater and chair Malcolm Anderson requested a 2.5 per cent funding increase each year for the next three years.
