The German Heritage Society Humboldt & District held a German supper and fashion show for the Saskatchewan German Council's 30th anniversary on Oct. 17.
The event was held at the Bella Vista Inn at began with a performance by the Little German Band before supper. After dinner, local models recruited by Cottage Boutique strode through the room between tables displaying 50 outfits from the store. The fashion show was a voluntary effort by the boutique and all profits went to the German Heritage Society.
"This was the first time we did that type of an event," said Lorna Yungmann, treasurer for the heritage society. "It was awesome. We were very pleased with the attendance. People came out and supported us and after asking around, we felt that everyone enjoyed it."
The society had printed 200 tickets and set tables for 180 people. By dinnertime, the room was full.
"Accommodating the amount of people in the hall would've been the biggest challenge, but it was handled well," said Yungmann. "Members from the Saskatchewan German Council also came out and addressed us and showed their appreciation for us doing that event."
The German Council provided the Humboldt affiliate with a grant, which is how they were able to support the fundraiser. Aside from the entertainment, they also had folk art, a Cottage Boutique gift certificate, and a number of other items donated as door prizes.
For Cottage Boutique, it wasn't a new thing for them.
"We usually do a lot of fashion shows for charities if they're trying to raise money because we've been in business for 23 years," said Lorie Menz, one of the co-owners of the boutique. "The ladies asked us if we would put on a fashion show for them and we were honoured to be asked."
All of the models were customers at the boutique who volunteered their time and physical assets willingly without compensation. There were eight models and 50 outfits that the boutique provided all together.
"Anybody that I've asked has said yes. Some are a little leery, but usually happy to do it and we're they do," said Menz. "I enjoyed myself and it seemed the models enjoyed it and I think the crowd enjoyed it. It was a fun evening."
