Access Communications was awarded three of six community programming awards during this year’s Tuned-in Canada campaign from the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance.

“Access is connecting people across Saskatchewan every day with dynamic local programming on Access7,” says Jim Deane, CEO, Access Communications Co-operative.

Hundreds of volunteers across the province donate their time to Access7 community channels, creating thousands of hours of first-run programming each year.

It truly is a labour of love and Access is honoured to be able to provide a place for communities to connect, according to a press release from the co-operative.

The award categories are: Heart Local Programming: Best News/Issues Coverage - Indigenous Games 2014; Heart Local Programming: Best Sports Coverage – Access7 Sports; Heart Local Programming: Best Entertainment Category – Invisible Wall.

More than 17,000 votes from across the country were cast in support of local cable companies, their content and the personalities that make them shine.

“We received more than 130 nominations from our members and their subscribers across the country, and as always, their stories were nothing short of inspirational,” says Alyson Townsend, president and CEO of the Canadian Cable Systems Alliance.

“But for us, the best thing is the exposure each and every one of our nominees received over these past few months. Tuned-in Canada is a great platform for celebrating their achievements.”

The CCSA is an advocacy and buying group operated by members for members, connecting independent cable operators and their subscribers with cost-effective programming and equipment, while ensuring their messages reach regulators and government.

Access Communications serves 220 communities.
