A missing North Battleford woman is among those the Saskatoon Historical Case Unit of the RCMP will be attempting to find during an aerial search of the North Saskatchewan River from the Battlefords to Nipawin this week.
Among three individuals who are believed to have gone missing in the North Saskatchewan River since 1981 is Bernice Carnahan. Her car was located Aug. 11 where it had been abandoned near the river.
The RCMP deployed the Police Dog Service, which followed a track leading to river. The RCMP's underwater recovery team was deployed but did not find her.
As part of a pro-active approach to locate missing persons, the Saskatoon Historical Case Unit conducts periodic searches of the river systems.
In June, 2012 the Saskatoon Historical Case Unit with the assistance of the Canadian Armed Forces searched the South Saskatchewan river from Saskatoon to "the forks." The area known as the forks is a place where the North and South Saskatchewan rivers join. There are five individuals believed to be in the South Saskatchewan river and may have floated past the point of the forks towards Nipawin.
The RCMP is asking for the public's assistance when near the river to keep an eye out for a body floating in the river so it can be recovered. For the duration of this operation, the Historical Case Unit will be posting photos on their FaceBook page. These can be viewed on-line at RCMP "F" Division - Major Crime North - Historical Case Unit.
