Humboldt's Vicki Lund celebrated opening a space for her practice, Spirit Haven, at the Community Gathering Place on Sept. 30.
The grand opening had snacks, drinks, and a demonstration of the practice of reiki, which she has been practicing for eight years.
She has been practicing out of her home up until now, but she said she felt "compelled" to move into the new space.
"When you know that something is right for your career or whatever, you kind of feel like it's right and it's time to get out and do it finally," she said.
Lund practices a variety of alternative medicine for people in the area and one day a week in Saskatoon.
Reiki practitioners believe that they can transfer energy from their palms to their client, which allows for self-healing and energy balance. Lund did a demonstration but holding her palms over the different area's of a volunteer's body and explain the technique of reiki.
In addition to this, Lund does soul coaching (similar to life coaching), angel chakra balancing (using the energy of angels to heal chakras), and meditation.
"I am always taking new classes and stuff to further what I can do for people, but I really like to focus on people emotionally," she said.
She has training in suicide intervention and helping in crisis situations, which she feels is useful in her practice sometimes.
"My favourite thing is doing the meditation classes with people because we have fun, we share, and everybody kind of helps each other through anything emotional that they're going through at the time," she said.
Lund hasn't always been able to help other people. She first got involved in holistic healing when she herself needed help.
"I was going through some emotional problems myself. I've struggled with depression and stuff like that all my life, and I hit a block," she said. "I hit a brick wall and emotionally I was done for a year. I was just a mess. I started looking because just the medical field wasn't helping me, medication, talking to counsellors, it wasn't completely helping me. So I started hearing more about energy healing and different holistic methods of healing, so I started going for sessions."
She said that she became an "energy junkie" and started learning more and more. She has taken a course online but she prefers to take classes in person as she feels that is the best way to learn.
