UPDATE from Saskatoon Police Service:

Members of the Major Crime Section have completed their investigation into the disappearance of a four year old girl from a home on Devonshire Crescent earlier this week.  The incident prompted the activation of an Amber Alert before the girl was located at a home on 20th Street West. Investigators have found no evidence that criminal activity occurred and will not be laying charges against anyone involved in the incident.

Following investigation, detectives are able to say that the child’s mother was of the belief that the child was in the care of a friend.  When she became aware that the child was not in fact, with that friend, she began a search for the little girl herself, before alerting police.

The other woman involved called Police to report she was in custody of the girl when she saw the Amber Alert information.  She has cooperated fully with the investigation.  She has reported to detectives that she left the Devonshire home with the child after a fight broke out inside.  While it is not entirely known why the woman retained custody of the child for an extended period of time, investigators have not found any indication of criminal intent or activity.

The Ministry of Social Services was alerted by the SPS upon locating the child.  SPS Victim’s Services is continuing to offer support where needed.

In consideration of the privacy of those involved SPS is not able to provide further details.
