The amber alert issued by Swift Current RCMP yesterday was lifted after the mother of the 16-year-old who was suspected of abducting a pregnant 14-year-old from her sister's home in Maple Creek brought both teens to the Swift Current Rural RCMP Detachment at about 7:20 p.m. yesterday.

RCMP say the 16-year-old and 14-year-old are safe at the detachment. Neither required medical treatment.

The 16-year-old male has been taken into custody and the 14-year-old female is currently with the RCMP.

Police say, once investigators were able to speak with the 14-year-old, they were able to determine she was no longer at risk. At that point the amber alert was cancelled.

"We greatly appreciate the assistance of the media who broadcasted the amber alert throughout the day," satys Sgt. Paul Dawson of F Division Media Relations. "Many thanks to the public for helping to spread the word through social media."

Now that the amber alert is over, the RCMP and media outlets no longer have the authority to publish the names or photos of the two individuals involved.
