Arrest in Biggar after truck stolen from Battlefords area

Biggar RCMP have arrested an individual wanted in connection to the theft of a truck from the Battlefords area.

Biggar detachment reported that shortly after midnight July 22, they received information from Battlefords RCMP that a stolen truck had entered Biggar's jurisdiction from the Battlefords detachment area.

Biggar police were able to find the truck on the 300 block of 5th Avenue East in Biggar. A lone male then fled from the truck and into a nearby residence. The male was located and arrested by police; during that arrest approximately $1150 in cash was found, as wers several individual baggies containing a white powdered substance.

The suspect, Reno Vincent Poitras, 23, of Biggar, has been charged with flight from police and possession of stolen property of a value exceeding $5,000, both under the Criminal Code, as well as possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Poitras made his first appearance in provincial court in North Battleford on July 24. He has been remanded to his next provincial court appearance, Aug. 1, again in North Battleford.
