Assault victim found to be previous day's perpetrator

Between 6 a.m. Saturday, March 7 and 6 a.m. Sunday, March 8, Battlefords RCMP responded to over 50 calls for service, including:

Saturday

- Police located and arrested a 17-year-old youth for being unlawfully at large shortly before 10 a.m. on Scott Drive. Accused had originally escaped from a youth facility on the Feb. 20.  Accused remanded for court Monday March 9.

- A van reported stolen from Winder Crescent at 10:30 a.m. Suspect known to owner. Vehicle was recovered shortly after 6 p.m. on the Mosquito First Nation. Investigation still ongoing.

- Mischief to property on Airport Road reported at 11:47 a.m. Some time overnight a bench and sign were damaged at the dog park.

- A vehicle windshield damaged while parked on Asquith Avenue overnight.

- Report of a jogger bitten by a dog in the area of 15th Avenue and 110th Street at 3 p.m. A woman sustained a minor bite to one leg which required medical attention. The attacking dogs were described as a bull dog and a small mastif or pitbull. A search of the area by members and bylaw officials was negative.

- Call of an assault at a residence on the 1500 block of 104th Street at 7:58 p.m. Suspect had already fled the scene but has been identified and charges of assault causing bodily harm against a 23-year-old male are pending. The 23-year-old male victim in this matter was treated for facial injuries and was found to be wanted in connection for a domestic violence incident from the evening before, where it was alleged he had assaulted a woman with a baton. He is facing charges of assault with a weapon in connection with this earlier incident and has been remanded into custody until his first appearance on Monday, March 9.

Police also arrested six people for alcohol related offences, and responded to six child welfare complaints, seven traffic investigations, six alarms, five minor disturbances, two Mental Health Act matters, four false or nuisance 911 calls and two bylaw matters.
