Parents of children with autism and professionals who work with them can learn from leaders and specialists in the field by attending a two-day conference in North Battleford, one of more than 50 communities across the province and Alberta, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories expected to link in through Telehealth.

The 7th annual conference, hosted by Children's Autism Services of Edmonton, is an educational event that engages respected researchers and practitioners to present in-depth sessions with practical strategies and resources.

This year's featured presenter is Michelle Garcia Winner, internationally renowned speech language pathologist from California, who coined the phrase "social thinking." How we think about others - social thinking - affects how we understand and relate to one another, according to a press release.

For most that process is intuitive but, for a child with autism, this is a complex communication skill the must be learned, the release explains.

The conference runs Thursday, Jan. 23 to Friday Jan. 24 at the Edmonton Marriott at River Cree Resort.

For program information, registration, and to find the local Telehealth site visit www.childrensautism.ca or 780-495-9235.
