Baking up memories in Bresaylor

The leaves have turned and mostly fallen, the air crisp in the morning frost, autumn is officially here, but it has certainly been a beautiful one.

The first stage of clay oven construction involves a solid base and a few bottled.

The leaves have turned and mostly fallen, the air crisp in the morning frost, autumn is officially here, but it has certainly been a beautiful one.

Locals and passers by were invited to enjoy some warm weather in Bresaylor this past weekend for the inaugural Bake in Bresaylor. This summer, Paynton small business owner Vinessa Currie-Foster and Artist Mariann Taubensee along with Bresaylor's Velma Foster organized for Jay Kimball to come out and instruct a clay oven workshop.

Half of the fun was building a structure out of clay, bottles, sand, straw and bricks, not to mention the glass and broken dishes that decorate it. After two days of building and a couple of weeks waiting, their hard work finally paid off when the first pizza came out of the adobe style oven. That pizza was followed by three more, a tray of sesame breadsticks, home made pizza pockets, chocolate chip cookies, bannock and beautiful brandy chocolate pears.

This versatile oven not only cooks but can steam as well. It also has the power to bring people together. More bakes are being planned for the future, so keep an ear open for when Velma will be hosting the next food adventure.
