BACKGROUND: On April 28 at approximately 3 a.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of shots fired at a local hotel located on the 1000 block of the Highway 16 bypass.
RCMP attended and did not locate any suspects on scene. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and determined that an occupant in a silver-coloured car fired several shots toward a white coloured SUV. Officers made patrols but did not locate either vehicle.
At approximately 4 a.m., RCMP were called to a stabbing at a gas station on the 900 block of the Highway 16 bypass. RCMP arrived on scene and located the white SUV that was shot at earlier. The driver was arrested for impaired driving. RCMP did not locate any person who had been stabbed.
At approximately 6 a.m., RCMP received the report of a silver car parked on Trudeau Street with a male waving around a firearm. RCMP were on scene immediately and attempted to stop the car, however, the vehicle refused to stop. Officers pursued the car for several blocks. The car lost control and was damaged after driving over an embankment.
Two adult male occupants were seen leaving the vehicle and fled on foot. One was arrested and taken into custody quickly. The other male was arrested and taken into custody with the assistance of the RCMP Police Dog Section.
At this time, police believe the discharge of firearm was not a random incident and has direct ties to drug trafficking. All suspects involved are in custody and were remanded to appear in court Wednesday morning.
