NORTHEAST — The province is asking motorists to travel with care through work zones this long weekend.
“Long weekends are busy times on our highways, with an increased risk of being injured or killed in a vehicle collision, so we’d like to remind everyone to take care out there,” said Joe Hargrave, the minister responsible for SGI. “Please obey posted speed limits, especially in orange zones. Police will also be out watching for impaired drivers, so if long weekend plans involve alcohol – or anything else that impairs you – plan a safe ride home.”
Some places where there could be delays on the highway could include:
- The bridge over the South Saskatchewan River on Highway #3 near Muskoday
- The bridge over Melfort Creek on Highway #6 near Melfort
- Application of conventional seal near Yellow Creek
- Highway #16 near Saskatoon
- Seal coating on Highway #55 near Prince Albert
- Highway #312 near Wakaw
- Highway #913 near Candle Lake
Motorists are being asked to slow down near the Armley corner and Highway #9 between Hudson Bay and Highway #55 is still closed.
There are many reasons work zones have temporary speed reductions left in place even when workers are not present. A sharp pavement drop, lane closure or loose gravel are examples of hazards that warrant a slower posted speed.
