CREIGHTON - An evacuation notice has been issued for the Town of Creighton.

The evacuation notice is posted on the Town of Creighton's Facebook page. According to the notice on their Facebook page, at 4 pm evacuation notices have been issued for Creighton, as well as Flin Flon and Denare Beach. Only essential personnel are permitted to remain in Flin Flon to assist with emergency activities.

The town is asking those who registered on the Sask. Evacuation App at https://app.saskecs.ca, to log in when they get to their destination to let them know where they are. Those who have not registered are asked to call the Town Office at 306-688-8253 or the recreation office at 306-688-3538. Those needing transportation out of town are urged to be at the Sportex at 8 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday).

The town also notes Highway 106 is open, with people urged to take the La Ronge cut across to the #2, then turn south to go to Prince Albert. There will be poor visibility due to the smoke.

As well, the landfill is closed until further notice and effective immediately, all ATVs, recreational and off road vehicles are banned from being used around the Creighton area.

Earlier in the day, a pre-alert for possible evacuation was issued at noon, as a result of dry conditions and the proximity of the fires.

In Manitoba, Premier Wab Kinew has issued a provincewide state of emergency regarding the wildfires hitting that province. An immediate mandatory evacuation was ordered during the afternoon for the City of Flin Flon, with all residents and visitors expected to be clear of the community by 12 p.m. midnight tonight (Wednesday).

Flin Flon community members with their own transportation were advised to evacuate through Provincial Road #10 towards The Pas; despite visibility issues, it is considered safe to drive.

The provincial state of emergency is initially for 30 days but could be extended. According to the province of Manitoba's news release, in addition to the state of emergency declaration the First Nations of Pimicikimak and Mathias Colomb have also issued mandatory evacuation orders.

“This is the largest evacuation in many Manitobans’ living memory and this will require significant resources and co-operation from all levels of government,” said Kinew in a news release. “I have spoken with the Prime Minister and we have asked for the support of the Canadian Armed Forces in transporting evacuees. There are hundreds of people who are mobilized to get you to safety and provide help. This is what Manitobans do, and we will get through this.”

On the X platform, Prime Minister Mark Carney posted the following: "I’ve spoken with Premier @WabKinew and offered Canada’s full support as his province battles wildfires around Flin Flon. The premier and I are in close contact, and the federal government stands ready to assist Manitoba’s provincial wildfire teams."
