Demonstrators were marching in the streets of North Battleford in support of Black Lives Matter on Tuesday.

The protest march began at 4 p.m. on 100th Street at 12th Avenue, with a small but enthusiastic group of participants gathering in the parking lot across the street from SaskTel. Among those in attendance was city councillor Kent Lindgren and former NDP provincial candidate Rob Feist.

The March headed towards 101st St with protesters chanting “No Justice No Peace” and “Black Lives Matter”.

It was just the latest in a number of protest demonstrations held in the city following the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer.

North Battleford is one of the many communities seeing several Black Lives Matter protests in North America; there have also been protests organized in Saskatoon and Regina.

While other protests in American cities have turned violent, the ones in North Battleford have so far been peaceful. The vast majority of participants at the Tuesday march were wearing masks to respect the public health orders.

Last Friday, peaceful demonstrations had also taken place in downtown North Battleford, with marchers marching and waving placards on 100th Street. They also made their way past City Hall.

The indication is the protest on Tuesday might not be the last one, as more could be on the way in the coming days.
