It was a slow start to a lively night for the music concert featuring Harlequin and Alan Frew of Glass Tiger on Friday night.
The show began at 8 p.m. and was opened by 40 oz. Philosophy, who were playing hits such as Takin' Care of Business and Don't Stop Believin'. It was during their performance that the tables started to fill up and the atmosphere really picked up.
An hour after the concert started, the crowd was getting livelier and increasingly enthusiastic as the beats blared out. A few individuals were even brave enough to start dancing in front of the stage.
By the time Frew came on, people had started drinking and singing along. He used his guitar, but regularly alternated between that and his tambourine. His jokes in between songs didn't go unappreciated either as laughter often followed after he spoke.
While he finished a little after 10 p.m., it was another hour before Harlequin was ready to come on stage. In the meantime, people took the opportunity to gallivant and eat some of the hot dogs that were for sale while they eagerly awaited the headliner band. The raffles were also drawn at this time, which was won by a few lucky individuals and raised $336 for the SPCA.
It was obvious that by the time Harlequin made their appearance at 11 p.m., people were ready to party. The strobe lights zipping back and forth enhanced their already lively performance and the space in front of the stage filled up fast with happy audience members.
The focus on band members swung between vocalist George Belanger and Derrick Gottfried, who often took center stage to show off his guitar skills. It was the moment many people had been waiting for.
The night ended with more than a couple hundred people in attendance, which means the SPCA can look forward to a decent amount of funding once the money is counted out.
