Building permit numbers in North Battleford saw a significant dip in May.

According to numbers prepared and submitted by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk to council Monday, 11 permits were issued in May for a permit value of $836,200, compared to 13 for the same month in 2012 for $3,078,100.

For the first five months of 2013 building permits are down significantly with 21 permits issued for a total value of $8,321,800 compared to 49 for $15,210,400 for the same period in 2012.

As far as May 2013 permits are concerned, there was one new dwelling permit issued for $282,000, one garage/carport for $20,000, seven residential alterations for $32,200, one removal/demotion for $2,000 and the most significant was one new commercial permit for $500,000.

The biggest drop for the month were in the category of commercial alterations, which recorded a "nil" for the month after recording two permits at a value of $1,953,500 in May 2012.

Despite the not so rosy building permit numbers for May, there was one piece of good news to report for the month of June.

A building plan was presented to council Monday for an addition to the west side of the Anderson Pump House Ltd. building at 9802 Thatcher Ave. That expansion is for an office and warehouse.

That addition is 45 by 80 feet and amounts to 3,600 square feet, and will require nine additional parking stalls approved on site. The value is estimated at $325,000.
