Building permit values in North Battleford held steady in the month of July in spite of a dip in the number of permits issued during the month.

Only 9 permits were issued in July, down from 18 in July 2009. However, permit values were up for the month to $3,477,000, compared to $3,345,300 the year before.

Leading the way was the issuing of one new commercial permit for $2,761,000 in July, compared to none in the category the previous year.

As well, one new dwelling permit was issued for $306,000, three new garage/carports issued for $46,000, two residential alterations for $52,000, one industrial alteration for $132,000 and one institutional alteration for $180,000.

With the exception of the industrial alteration, permit values were well off the July 2009 pace in those categories. There were also steep declines posted for new condo units, commercial alterations and signs, where no permits were issued.

Overall, 2010 continues to see North Battleford well ahead of 2009's pace for building permits, with the permit values for this year already guaranteed to outpace last year's overall total once the year is concluded.

To this point in 2010, a total of 92 building permits have been issued for $33,888,500, compared to 90 issued for $15,874,800 for the same period last year.

The building permit report was compiled by building inspector Jerry Wintonyk and submitted to Monday night's regular meeting of city council.
