Building permits cooled slightly in September but nevertheless remain strong for the year to date, with permit values now past the $40 million mark.
A total of 87 permits for $40,183,300 have been issued through September, which compared to 96 permits for $12,007,400 the previous year.
In September alone, 12 permits were issued for $1,022,000 compared to 19 for $1,253,000 a year earlier.
City Director of Planning and Development Tim LaFreniere noted that among the activity last month was the permit for the commercial alterations for Ranch House Ltd., owners of the KFC franchise on 100th Street that has seen renovations over the past month.
That permit made up about $500,000 of the $662,000 in permit values for a total of three commercial alteration permits issued in September.
One new two-family permit was issued for $249,000. The other permits included three residential alterations, one new industrial, three demolitions/removals and one sign permit.
With the TG Watch building plan presented to city council last week, LaFreniere added that will be reflected in the October report which will see "further growth and activity."
Councillor Ryan Bater was among the councillors impressed with the continued strong numbers for the year.
He asked if in recent memory "we've seen a year like this?" LaFreniere responded the numbers reflected significant activity "across the broad spectrum."
"That's the real measure of this is the activity going on in our commercial and industrial sector," LaFreniere said.
