Building permits up but values way down

More building permits were issued in August than the previous year in North Battleford, but values were way down from a year ago.

More building permits were issued in August than the previous year in North Battleford, but values were way down from a year ago.

A total of 16 building permits were issued for $590,000 in August 2013, compared to 10 for $5,992,000 issued in the same month in 2012.

Last year's totals had been boosted by $1,271,000 for a new condo and three commercial alteration permits at a value of $3,151,000. Both categories recorded "nil" in August 2013.

Instead, the permits report filed by Building Inspector Jerry Wintonyk included one new dwelling permit for $220,000, three garage/carport permits for $55,000, seven residential alterations for $39,500, two industrial alterations for $175,500, one new institutional permit for $80,000 (down from one for $1,225,000 the previous August) and two sign permits for $20,000.

For the year through August, 78 permits have been issued for $10,754,400, compared to 92 for $26,609,900 for the same period in 2012.
