Here are items from Monday night's council meeting in North Battleford (thanks to City Communications Manager James Risdon for providing the information on which this report is based.):
Councillors heard from Sgt. Neil Tremblay of the Battlefords RCMP detachment who spoke about the September crime numbers in North Battleford. Notable for the month was a drop in calls for service from around 1,400 to 918.
Councillors have been invited to a fraud awareness and prevention seminar by the accounting firm Holm Clements Kwong Raiche Oberg. The goal, a letter stated, was to "inform you of fraud indicators and steps you can take to reduce the risk of fraud occurring within your municipality." The meeting is slated for Dec. 4 in the North Battleford Public Library's lecture theatre.
Mayor Ian Hamilton proclaimed Nov. 6 to be Community-based Organizations Worker Appreciation Day.
In new business, the City is buying a four-wheel drive, crew cab pickup truck for its operations department. Director of Operations Stewart Schafer said they found it to be very useful in snowy or muddy conditions.
Also Monday, council approved a wellness program for City employees which will see full-time municipal employees receive free admission to Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre and NationsWEST Field House, and a 50 per cent discount on leisure passes and admissions for their immediate family members. Part-time employees get a 50 per cent discount.
With the Nov. 10 meeting cancelled due to a potential lack of quorum, the next regular council meeting is scheduled for Nov. 24.
