Car impounded after driver charged for impaired driving

Maidstone RCMP are reporting a week with 104 occurrences between May 1 and 7. Some of the most common calls received were related to break and enter, fire and impaired drivers.

May 1, in the early morning, Maidstone RCMP were advised by a nearby detachment to be on the lookout for a possible impaired driver. Police patrolled and located the suspect vehicle, a blue older model car, on Highway 16 near Maidstone. The driver, a 50 year old woman from Saskatoon was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and possession of an illegal drug or substance. Her vehicle was impounded for a minimum of 30 days.

May 2, motorist were stopped on Highway 16 near Maidstone by the Maidstone RCMP in two separate incidents. Both were travelling 35 km/h over the posted speed limit of 110 km/h:

The first vehicle was travelling at 145 km/h. The driver, from Ontario, has been charged for one count of operating a vehicle at a speed greater than 35 km/h over the applicable speed limit. The resulting fine was $340.

The second vehicle was also travelling at 145 km/h. The driver, from Lloydminster, Sask., has been charged for one count of operating a vehicle at a speed greater than 35 km/h over the applicable speed limit. The resulting fine was $340.

May 4, the Enhanced Policing Unit responded to a theft of truck complaint in the Hillmond area. The truck, which was secured, was stolen sometime overnight from a rural residence. The truck is described as a white 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The truck bears Saskatchewan plate 373JRR and has a 2 x 4 head rack. This vehicle is still outstanding. If seen, please contact police immediately at 306-893-4800.

May 5, the Enhanced Policing Unit was called to an industrial area outside of Lloydminster in the RM of Wilton. A vehicle that was parked overnight had been vandalized and a shovel thrown through the windshield. Police are currently in the process of obtaining surveillance footage, but suspect a person on an ATV may be involved. May 6, a missing person was reported in the RM of Britannia north of Lloydminster. Maria Erdmann, 49, was last seen leaving her residence at around 11:05 p.m. Maidstone RCMP, with the assistance of Lloydminster RCMP Police Dog Services as well as the Lloydminster Rescue Squad, located Erdmann early in the morning of May 7, unharmed.

May 7, the Enhanced Policing Unit stopped a vehicle travelling northbound on Highway 17 near Sandy Beach Regional Park. The driver, a man from Onion Lake, was found to be prohibited from driving and the vehicle, a Dodge pickup, was found to be unregistered since 2015. The driver was arrested for driving while disqualified and operating a motor vehicle without valid registration. The pickup was impounded for a minimum of 30 days.

May 7, the Maidstone RCMP was called to a party at Sandy Beach Regional Park. It was reported that there were several people on the beach, drinking and being loud. Police attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle leaving the park. The driver, a Class 7 learner, was detained for an impaired investigation and provided a 60-day licence suspension. The vehicle was also impounded for three days.
