Each year Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation commits approximately $308,000 to purchase medical equipment for BUH from money raised from four main fundraising events, according to a BUHF press release.
For a number of years the foundation has committed $190,000 from the $100,000 Cash Lotteries to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, the release states.
Last year the foundation Lottery proceeds purchased, among a number of items, a night medication dispensing system for the emergency room and an infant incubator for the Women's Health and Birthing Centre.
"Your ticket purchases have a significant impact in this community," says Brenda Sparrow, BUHF board of directors chair.
"The funds raised stay in the Battlefords to help people in the Battlefords and surrounding communities. We thank you for this support and are very grateful for the commitment the Battlefords businesses and individuals have to local healthcare."
Sparrow adds proceeds from the 2013 $100,000 lottery will support the purchase of a new $550,000 digital fluoroscopy unit for BUH's Medical Imaging Department."
A digital fluoroscopy unit obtains real time imaging of a patient that then allows the radiologist to observe organs and functional imaging of the body to provide accurate and timely diagnosis and possible life saving interventions.
A new feature to the 2013 lottery will be computerized ticket receipts. No longer will you have to wait to have your ticket filled out when you come in person to purchase your ticket. This year the ticket application and 50/50 add-on will be completed, payment received and lottery ticket numbers and 50/50 add-on numbers will be delivered by mail.
Tickets will remain at $40 each or three for $100, with only 14,000 available. They can be purchased at BUHF office, BUHF canteen/gift shop and in the main lobby of BUH. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 306-446-6652 or toll-free 1-888-946-4284 (1-888-WIN-4BUH).
The 50/50 add-ons are available at one for $10 or three for $25 and can be purchased only in conjunction with the $100,000 Cash Lottery. The guaranteed minimum payout for the 50/50 draw is $20,000. All winners' names will be published in the Battlefords Regional Optimist, announced on CJNB/Q98/The Rock and CJNS radio stations, as well as posted on BUH Foundation's website www.buhfoundation.com.
