May 15 to 21 was National Public Works Week, and North Battleford’s Operations and Maintenance department marked the occasion with a barbecue for its contractors, consultants and City employees May 19.
A hungry crowd attended during the noon hour.
Public works professionals are responsible for a wide range of infrastructure in the City that most people take for granted — roads and sidewalks, parks and green areas, water, sewer and waste management, among others.
Stewart Schafer, director of operations with the City of North Battleford, said in a news release that “public works looks after the very basic needs of our residents and when we do our job, people do not notice the work required to provide this service in an effective manner on a 365 day, 24 hour basis.”
