A delegation including North Battleford 2013 Centennial Committee chair Tammy Donahue-Buziak and Mayor Ian Hamilton have started touring North Battleford schools, all in an effort to inform the school children about the centennial year and the city's heritage.

Their first stop was at Connaught School Monday morning - an appropriate venue as the school is also celebrating 100 years of history in 2013. Pictures were shown of the former Connaught School and other landmarks in the city, including the former water tower.

The delegation's next stop Monday was at Bready School and they planned to visit more schools in Living Sky division throughout the week, with plans to visit the Light of Christ division's schools in February.

Monday, Connaught School was presented a package for their library that included a skyline book and a history book, a centennial flag, a centennial calendar of events, and buttons, among others. Other schools will be getting similar packages.

The goal of the tour is simply to educate and encourage children to be interested in the centennial and the history of the city.

"We're trying to get the message out to everyone, including the children of North Battleford, that this is a very special year," said Hamilton.

The mayor noted it was important for children to know the importance of the city's centennial year.

"There are milestones in every city, and in everybody's lives there are milestones," said Hamilton. "It's very important for them to look back, be encouraged to look back and participate in a celebration like this one."
