Here is an update on the latest from the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce board meeting held Tuesday, March 16:

The Battlefords Chamber reports it is expecting the contract “any day now” for their Canada Shop Local project. Chief Operating Officer Linda Machniak said at their March 16 meeting the chamber has been given the go ahead for their project as applied for, and they expect to get started in April.

The plan is to do filming at businesses for videos, with a focus on the business and the importance of shopping in the community.

The chamber is also putting committees together to get moving on work for 2021, with plans to report back at the next meeting. The BBEX (Battlefords Business Excellence Awards) will be put together as well.

On the policy and advocacy side, Machniak reported that the Canadian Chamber has had a significant focus last week on women in the workforce. There was a particular focus on job numbers for women in the workplace and the damage that COVID-19 has done.

As well, the Saskatchewan chamber has released a report called “Building the Low-Carbon Economy” — an extensive report on exploring opportunities for Saskatchewan to lower carbon emissions. That report was released earlier that day.
