MELFORT— The City of Melfort has put out a press release, advising residents that garage and yard sales are not permitted under the current health order.
Garage and yard sales are not considered critical public services and are not named as an allowable business under the Saskatchewan ReOpen plan.
This release from the city comes after they received a number of inquiries from the public on whether yard sales can be held.
“By function, a garage sale involves high risk interactions that represent a considerable chance of transmission of COVID-19,” wrote Brent Lutz, Melfort’s director of development, planning and community relations.
“Garage sales and yard sales will not be permitted at [a] time when we all should be limiting the number of visitors to our home and avoiding contact with items others may have touched.”
Lutz said holding illegal yard sales hasn't been an issue for the community as of yet.
“We’re trying to just get out in front of this before people start engaging at this activity and then we’re having to follow up after the fact,” he said. “They may not have thought this is something they would need to clarify with the provincial government through the business advice line.”
The community will be updated when this situation changes.
