HUMBOLDT — The City is asking residents to stay off the streets due to flooding to avoid additional property damage.

The flooding was caused by heavy rain on the evening on June 30

"As Public Works and Utilities continue to assess the results of the recent downfall, please check your basements and ensure your sump pumps are functioning properly and that the discharge is directed outside and not into the sanitary sewer system," the city posted on social media.

On July 1, the city reported damage on Second Avenue.

"As a result of the heavy rain last night, a primary sewer main has collapsed and a large sink hole has formed on the road surface. The City has mobilized a crew to address the issue."

As a result, the 100 blocks of Ninth Street and 10th Street, as well as Sunset Estates, are on a drinking water advisory.
