In the wake of the reorganization of departments at North Battleford City Hall this year, there is news of further changes coming to the committee structure.

The changes were outlined in a memo to council from City Clerk Debbie Wohlberg dated Sept. 18.

In a nutshell, the plan is to combine the existing Municipal Services Committee, the Finance Internal Working Committee and the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Heritage Committee into a single Planning Committee.

The idea, as mentioned in comments by City Manager Jim Puffalt in that memo, is to "allow council an opportunity to devote sufficient time to review long-term planning issues as well as expediting process." This was also recommended in the customer service review completed earlier this year.

As well, the plan is to create a new Leisure Services Committee that would deal with community and leisure issues and look after the grant allocation process per Sask. Lotteries. These are currently functions of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Heritage Committee.

The intention is for Parks, Recreation, Culture and Heritage to continue to make recommendations on lotteries grants funding until the Leisure Services Committee comes into effect.

At council Monday, Wohlberg indicated the proposed changes, and a bylaw to amend the procedure bylaw, will be back at the next meeting of council for approval.
