EAST CENTRAL — Non-profit organizations within 100 kilometres of BHP’s Jansen Potash Project near LeRoy will be able to apply to a new COVID-19 community assistance fund.

The Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance (MSMA) has partnered with BHP to distribute this one time-funding between $5,000 to $20,000 per organization – for a total of $100,000.

“BHP recognizes the COVID-19 pandemic has created a challenge for our community based organizations, and their ability to host events and do fundraisers for all their projects in their local communities,” said Ann Paton, corporate affairs with BHP. “We just wanted to be able to help out, to respond to that need and make sure the communities are basically still around after this pandemic.”

The applicant is required to meet their eligibility criteria and guidelines which include improving community health & wellness, education & training, social inclusion, enhancing livelihoods, or biodiversity & water.

They also must clearly demonstrate how COVID-19 has impacted the fundraising ability of the organization.

Eligibility criteria and application guidelines can be found at msmaregion.com, by emailing [email protected] or by calling Celine Favreau at 306-946-9000.

The deadline to apply for the fund is July 15.
