Here are some of the notable items dealt with at the Sept. 23 meeting of city council in North Battleford (thanks to City Marketing and Communications Co-ordinator Mike Halstead for the information):
City Planner Tim Lafreniere presented the lot layout for the next stage of development in Fairview Heights. The layout features seven lots - four for condos/townhouses, two for single detached homes, and one apartment development. The layout calls for Buhler Avenue to be extended and for one new intersecting street to be introduced, with condominium development slated for this fall.
2012 audited financial statements and supporting schedules have been approved by council, with the statements to be posted on the finance section of the City website.
Councillor Cathy Richardson reminded residents about the Downtown North Battleford Festival happening Sept. 28.
Councillor Don Buglas inquired whether rough patches of road at Territorial Drive and Highway 4 South are the responsibility of the City or the province. City administration will determine that.
City council has received a letter from Kevin Doherty, minister for Parks, Culture and Sport, who officially informed the city the Government of Saskatchewan has approved a provincial athletics commission to be up and running by the summer of 2014 to sanction professional combative sports. Those include mixed martial arts and boxing events. Mayor Ian Hamilton pointed out that according to the letter, until that comes into effect, such events held without sanctioning will be illegal.
Mayor Hamilton has designated October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and United Way Month in the City of North Battleford.
The next council meeting is Tuesday night, Oct. 15.
