This fall's civic election race is officially underway in North Battleford as Councillor Ron Crush has become the first officially nominated candidate in the race.
It has been confirmed by the Regional Optimist that Crush filed nomination papers in the race for councillor last Friday at city hall, along with the five signatures required from his nominators. Aug.31 was opening day for nominations in North Battleford.
Crush, a senior technologist with the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, is seeking a second term after being elected for the first time in 2009.
As of early Wednesday afternoon, Crush was still the only nominated candidate in the race for either mayor or council in North Battleford, though several more hopefuls are expected to file papers over the next couple of weeks.
The nomination period lasts until 4 p.m. Sept. 19 and election day is Oct. 24.
