RCMP have confirmed on Thursday that they believe last week's sudden deaths on 99th Street were a murder-suicide.
Police stated in a news release that the 39-year-old female was identified as Tammy Fiddler, and that she was responsible for the death of her two children: 7-year-old Tessa and 11-year-old Wesley Bryant.
According to police, last Thursday, June 4, at approximately 2:30 p.m., North Battleford RCMP, North Battleford Fire Department and local EMS received a report of a residential structural fire on the 1400 block of 99th Street in North Battleford.
On arrival, responders located a 39-year-old female deceased outside the residence. According to the news release, it was reported to police the deceased female had been removed from the residence by her common-law partner, who had arrived at the residence moments before emergency responders.
The fire was isolated to the basement area, but there was smoke throughout the entire residence. Once firefighters were able to gain entry they found a 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, bothdeceased.
Citing the injuries observed on the adult female at the time she was located, Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit South then assumed carriage of the investigation. It was an extensive investigation with officers conducting over 30 interviews. There was also several neighbourhood inquiries from residents living in close proximity.
The fire scene was examined, and forensic autopsies were conducted June 8 and 9.
According to the news release, Major Crimes Unit was assisted by North Battleford RCMP, RCMP North Battleford Forensic Identification Services, RCMP General Investigation Services, North Battleford Fire Department, fire Investigators from Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, and Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service.
The investigation is ongoing, and family members have requested privacy from media interviews at this time.
