TISDALE — Cpl. Mike Benjamin with the Tisdale RCMP said the detachment has recently received two complaints where debit and credit cards have been stolen from vehicles in the Tisdale area.

In both instances, the cards were used after being stolen.

“The one that’s going to continue to be an issue is thefts from residences and vehicles,” Benjamin said. “People need to make sure they lock their vehicles, they don’t leave any valuables in their vehicles and they don’t leave their keys in the ignition.”

Benjamin said they’re currently being investigated as crimes of opportunity.

On Oct. 22, the City of Melfort issued a press release warning people to take precautions after the RCMP noticed an increase in crime, including stolen vehicles, vehicle break and enters, and theft of city and private property.

“There’s no magical barrier between Tisdale, Melfort, Nipawin and all that,” Benjamin said. “It’s the same throughout Canada. Don’t leave your valuables.”

From Oct. 21 to Nov. 4 the Tisdale RCMP responded to 86 calls for service including four complaints of impaired drivers, five calls of attempted frauds, five collisions, and three complaints under the Mental Health Act.

“We’re still receiving complaints from victims of fraud. We need to ensure people are not providing personal information to callers over the phone, that they’re not sending money to various locations inside and outside of Canada.”
